Rebecca has always loved horses but has only been able to spend time with them since moving to Devon in 2011. Now living on a converted farm, she can watch them from her studio, and enjoy spending time getting to know them and studying their behaviour, empathy and body language. Just to gaze into a horses eyes is a reason to paint them.
Rebecca was invited to be an Associate Member of the Society of Equestrian Artists in 2018, and is fascinated by people working with horses, the finesse of competition horses and the wild native ponies of Devon.
Pastels are the perfect medium to capture movement and textures, from the deep shine of an eye, to the rough coat of an Exmoor pony or the gleaming sheen of a racehorse.
The paintings and drawings are carefully produced using Unison pastels, charcoal and Conte crayons, on pastel papers or pastel primers painted onto board. All work is protected when sold to prevent smudging, usually framed behind glass. Rebecca uses professional quality pastels which do not fade over time.
