Zoom Pastel Workshop with Rebecca de Mendonça, ‘A Horse’s Head’

Join us for a live pastel workshop, to sketch a horse’s head in pastels. We will be using soft pastels, Conte Crayons (if you have them) and pastel pencils, to capture the beautiful form and textures of a chestnut horse’s head. From the shine of the eye, the softness of the muzzle, to the fine coat.
This demo will also include tips on how to understand the structure of the head, and how ‘less is more’, and with just a few marks you can convey the meaning.
There is a list of materials below, although you absolutely do not need to have these exact colours.
As horse’s are complex, Rebecca cannot promise to completely finish the piece in the 2 hours, but she will show you how to draw and paint all of the main elements, so that you can complete the final touches in your own time.
There will be a recording available the day after the session if you register for the event.
We will use soft pastels, Conte Carre Crayons and pastel pencils, although you do not need to have these exact colours. We will work on a brown mid-tone or dark pastel paper or surface
You will receive a detailed list of materials, photographs for reference, and a drawing to help you if you need it
This is a workshop where it will help to have some basic drawing skills.
How the session works
I will be demonstrating in my studio, and my ever-patient husband André will be hosting the zoom session. You can ask questions during the demonstration, using the ‘chat’, and I can answer questions at the end, face to face.
A recording of the session will be available after the workshop if you have registered for the event.
